SGO Candy Cane Sale through Dec. 22

SGO will be selling candy canes during both lunches through Dec. 22.  Once Candy Cane is $0.25 and a bouquet of 5 is $1.00.  Want to surprise a friend, candy canes can be delivered to homerooms through Dec. 21 for $1.00 for one candy cane and $2.00 for a bouquet!

Dance Auditions for The Addam's Family, Dec. 12

The dance auditions for The Addam's Family spring musical will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 6 until 9 p.m. in the Auditorium.  Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 19 from 6 until 9 p.m. Please see the information sheet posted outside the Chorus Room or see Mrs. Derrick if you have any questions.

Yankee Candle $100 gift card raffle, Dec. 12

The Yankee Candle $100 gift card raffle will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 12 during AAP in Room 133.

Health & Wellness Club accepting toy donations through Dec. 13

Health & Wellness Club is accepting new, unwrapped toys to donate to local children this holiday season.  Please place your donations in the box in the front lobby.  Thank you for your generosity, and for brightening the holiday season for a child in need!

5-Hour Pre-Licensing Driving Course, Dec. 12 & Dec. 13

The 5-Hour course will be offered on Dec. 12 and Dec. 13 from 7 until 9:30 p.m. in the high school, Room 206.  The course is $40 and you can register with Dacey Bonney at  This course fulfills the NYS 5-Hour classroom requirement for those signing up to take a road test.  People who have taken driver education and received a blue card do not have to take this course.  Please bring your permit to class.

International Club fundraiser through Dec. 15

The International Club will be selling bracelets made by girls in Africa to support their education.  The bracelets will be sold in Room 246 now through Dec. 12 and during both lunches through Dec. 15.  The bracelets are $5 and come in different sizes and materials.

Class of 2019 Hoffman Car Wash fundraiser through December

The Class of 2019 is selling Hoffman Car Wash tickets until the end of December.  The tickets are $10 for an exterior wash and $25 for a full service wash.  These tickets make great stocking stuffers for friends and family, and can be used anytime of the year.  You can purchase these tickets from an online link that is listed below, which can also be found in the Class of 2019 Google Classroom.

NYSSMA Solo Festivals

Student musicians are invited to apply for participation in three different NYSSMA Solo Festivals, scheduled for the Spring.  The NYSSMA Piano Solo Festival (The College of Saint Rose - March 9-10) deadline for application is Friday, January 5.  The regular NYSSMA Instrumental/Vocal Festival (Ravena - April 13-14) deadline is Friday, January 19.  The NYSSMA Instrumental Jazz/Vocal Jazz Festival (Shaker Jr. High School - June 1-2) deadline is Friday, March 2.  Information and applications are available in the High School Fine Arts Office, the Middle School Music Office, and from you school Music Teacher.

Diploma cards for graduation, Jan. 10 & 11

Herff Jones will be mailing a packet to your home address with graduation information.  Included in this mailing is a card to complete with how you want your legal name to appear on your diploma.  Please fill out his card, get a parent signature and turn in to the Herff Jones representative when they are at the high school on Jan. 10 and 11, 2018.  This card is not mandatory.  If a card is not handed in, the student name will appear on their diploma as it appears on file.

The Herff Jones representative will be in the high school main lobby on Wednesday, Jan. 10 and Thursday, Jan. 11 from 9:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m.  Please stop by to be measured for your cap and gown (or tell them you already have one), turn in your diploma card if you choose to drop off orders with deposits.

Attention all boys in 9-12th grade who are interested in playing lacrosse in the spring.  There will be a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 12 in the Spartan LGI Room during AAP regarding the winter strength & conditioning and indoor lacrosse programs.

Health and Wellness Club free yoga & stress management class, Dec. 13

The Health and Wellness Club is hosting a free yoga and stress management workshop after school on Dec. 13 during AAP in Room 213.  Laurel Englesson, a certified yoga instructor, will be here to guide us through movement and breathing to reduce stress.  Please join us for a relaxing experience! Yoga mats will be provided unless you prefer to use your own.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Henry-Starace or Mrs. Wempe.

Counseling Center News

Attention Seniors: The following college will host an Instant Admission Day here at BH-BL, Dec. 5

Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. - Fulton Montgomery Community College

Instant Admissions Day provides students the opportunity to apply for free, be evaluated by an admission counselor and admitted without making any commitment until May.  Interested students need to sign up in advance for their appointments and will receive an application to complete.  Please see the counseling center with any questions and to reserve an appointment.

Seniors with January 1st college application deadlines

Seniors with January 1st college application deadlines, please see your guidance counselor by Friday, Dec. 15 to request your transcript and any other documents you may need from the counseling center.
