Guidelines for Cold & Flu Season

Cold and flu season is well upon us. In ensuring good communication and cooperation between home and school, we are sharing the following information as a reminder of how best to keep our children as healthy as possible during this particularly tough season. [READ MORE] Students should be encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest and wash hands frequently.

When your child is not feeling well and because many viruses can last one to two weeks, we understand it can be difficult to know when to send them to school. Below are some recommended guidelines for when to keep your student home:

  • When persistent nasal discharge is present;
  • When there is a fever (body temperature > than 100). It is further recommended that a student stay home for 24 hours fever free before returning to school;
  • When vomiting occurs before school;
  • An unidentified rash is present;
  • Complaints of a painful sore throat or a sore throat that worsens after 24-48 hours;
  • When your child generally doesn’t feel well enough to function at school.
