BH-BL expands its School News Notifier

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake uses the "School News Notifer" (SNN) system to help keep parents and residents more in touch with key happenings in the school district.

SNN is an opt-in system where individuals can sign up to receive e-mail alerts from the district administration when specific things occur, such as emergency school closings or delays.

Starting in August 2009, you can sign up to receive emergency school closing announcements on your cell phone. Plus the district is offering 5 new alerts in addition to the 3 alerts that have been offered since 2007. The new alerts will send out announcements and news specific to each of our 5 schools.

Users can choose to receive any or all of these alerts, and can unsubscribe at any time.  See details below.

How do I sign up?

Go to the SNN homepage and create your profile. You will be asked to provide your name and email address, and to create your own password. Once you create your profile, you will be asked to select which of our 8 alerts you would like to receive and to provide your cell phone and cell provider if you wish to receive emergency closings on your cell phone. Once you select your alerts and click "subscribe," you will be all set!  (You can change your selected alerts at any time.)

If you wish to receive alerts at more than one email address (for instance, one for each parent, or one for work and one for home), simply create an additional profile for each email address desired.

Note: Your email address will be kept confidential, and SNN pages are also encrypted to protect your privacy.

What alerts can I receive?

Effective August 2009, the district is now offering 8 alerts:

1. Emergency school closings and delays:  Find out via email and (optional) a cell phone text message when any of our five schools is closed unexpectedly due to severe weather or other emergency. Alerts will also go out when classes are on a one-hour or two-hour delay in the morning, or when ALL afterschool or evening activities are cancelled due to bad weather.
2. Board of Education Budget Development Announcement:  Sign up for this notification if you are interested in following the process of creating the next school budget. Emails will go out to let you know when new information about the budget has been posted on our website or to announce an upcoming community budget forum.
3. Change in Sex Offender Residency:  Find out via email whenever our school district is notified by the police that a registered sex offender has moved into or changed residency in our district. This is a rare occurrence, but signing up for this notification will allow you to share whatever limited information we receive from either state or town police. (Note: you can also find information on sex offenders at any time on the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services web pages.)
4. Charlton Heights News:  This alert will send you information on news, events & activities specific to the Charlton Heights Elementary School.
5. Pashley News:  This alert will send you information on news, events & activities specific to the Pashley Elementary School.
6. Stevens News:  This alert will send you information on news, events & activities specific to the Stevens Elementary School.
7. Middle School News:  This alert will send you information on news, events & activities specific to the Richard O'Rourke Middle School.
8. High School News:  This alert will send you information on news, events & activities specific to the BH-BL High School.
