Honor Societies
The high school has five honor societies students can be elected to join. Each honor society has different criteria for admission including, but not limited to, academic achievement, academic interest, service, leadership, teacher recommendation, and character. Check the daily announcements or contact advisors for more information.
National Honor Society
Advisor: Mr. Diprimio
Students are elected to the National Honor Society in limited numbers during their junior year. Eligibility requires a 90 average in all courses and election on the basis of leadership, character, and service. Information and applications are distributed each spring. Applicants will also have to show evidence of volunteer hours (45 hours), receive recommendations from faculty and staff, and submit a candidate’s statement, as part of the application. Students are invited to attend an application meeting in March of their junior year. Acceptance decisions are typically made by the end of March and the Induction Ceremony is held in April.
New York State Mathematics Honor Society
Advisors: Mrs. Durant, Mrs. Erickson, Ms. Litynski
Students are selected in 10th or 11th grade and must have completed three semesters of math at the high school. Eligibility requires a math average of 85 or higher and an overall high school average of 85 or higher. Students must also demonstrate exemplary character, leadership, and service. Applications are typically made available in February.
New York State Science Honor Society
Advisor: Mr. Watts
Students are selected in the 10th or 11th grade after completing three semesters of science at the high school. Eligibility requires an average of 85 or higher in all high school science coursework and an overall average of 85 or higher. Students must also demonstrate exemplary character, leadership, and service. Applications are typically made available in February.
Tri-M Music Honor Society
Advisor: Mr. Caswell
Tri-M, or Modern Music Masters is a music honor society in which students may gain membership for a combination of music-related and academic accomplishments. Tri-M members are selected for their exceptional scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Chapter goals and areas of focus include drawing positive attention to our music department through community service, helping members reach their full musical potential, and providing performance opportunities outside of the curricular music ensembles.
World Languages Honor Society
Advisors: Mrs. Dann, Mrs. Shanholtz
Students enrolled in a Level 3 language course are selected to the World Languages Honor Society during their 10th or 11th grade school year. Application period is generally in October. Eligibility requires a commitment to the study of at least one language in the school district with an 85 or above average, and an active involvement in the language community, inside and outside of the school. The Induction Ceremony is typically held in April.
