Health Education

Health Education at the high school is a continuation of what was learned and practiced in middle school. The curriculum is responsive to the needs of students enrolled in the class and is focused on developing skills that will enhance all dimensions of their health as a teenager and as an adult.

HEALTH
Grades 10, 11      ½ year       ½ credit
This course will help students develop and enhance skills that will enable them to live healthfully in an ever-changing environment. Students participate in relevant learning experiences that incorporate planning and goal setting, stress management, decision making, communication and advocacy with topics such as nutrition, sexual health, substance abuse, and injury and violence prevention. Successful completion of this course is required for graduation.

ADVANCED HEALTH SKILLS AND WELLNESS CAREERS
Grades 11, 12        ½ year      ½ credit
This course is offered on a rotating basis. It will be offered in 2025-26, 2027-2028, etc. school years.
This course focuses on a personalized approach to health-enhancing life skills. It combines a blended learning model using the Internet and Google classroom technology as well as face-to-face classroom instruction. Students will earn American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification. They will also assess their personal health and wellness, and select and practice individual health improvement strategies. Students will focus on a variety of health fields such as wellness, health and physical education, and various medical fields. Students will research and explore career options, interview people in these fields, research college programs, and visit a local college that offers a health focus area of study. This course is a stepping stone in the exploration of a career in a growing field. Prerequisite: Health
