HS students receive NYS Seal of Biliteracy

At a recent World Languages Department ceremony, 15 high school students who demonstrated proficiency in English and a World Language through a series of accomplishments including project presentations in both languages were honored with the NYS Seal of Biliteracy.

Congratulations to Zoe Brignola (Spanish), Molly Burchett (French), Joanna Chan (Spanish), Mia Curcio (Spanish), Dorothea DeMarle (German), Margaret DeMarle (German), Victoria Duplan (Spanish), Rebecca Friedman (French), Brian Hughes (German), Brooke Hughson (Spanish), Taylor Hulett (Spanish), Olivia Ismail (French), Clara Law (French), Patrick Nyhan (French),  and Kaitlyn Pomeroy (Spanish).

NYS Education Department Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages states: “The NYSSB recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in English and one or more world languages.  The intent of the NYSSB is to encourage the study of languages, to identify high school graduates with language and biliteracy skills for employers, to provide universities with additional information about applicants seeking admission and placement, to prepare students with twenty-first century skills, to recognize the value of language instruction, and to affirm the value of diversity in a multilingual society.”
