BH-BL among highest graduation rate in the region
On Wednesday, the NY State Education Department released the 2018 graduation rate data which shows that BH-BL continues to have one of the highest graduation rates, 95 percent*, in the capital region.
New York State records the number of students who enter each public high school every September. Graduation rate measures the percentage of those students who graduate four years later, in both June and August. Of the students entering BH-BL high school in 2014, 94 percent graduated in June 2018. This rate grew to 95 percent by last August. There are students from the 2014 cohort that are still enrolled and that cohort’s graduation rate will likely rise to near 97 percent by this coming June. By comparison, BH-BL’s 2013 cohort had a four-year graduation rate of 98 percent by August 2017. That rate rose to 99 percent by June of 2018. The state’s overall four-year graduation rate is 80.4 percent.
“BH-BL has consistently recorded a graduation rate in the mid to high 90s,” said Superintendent Patrick McGrath. “These high rates are a direct reflection of the hard work of our students. Supporting them is a partnership between their families who value and support education and the BH-BL faculty, support staff, and administrators at every grade level, who believe in, support, challenge, and encourage students year after year.”
* The Daily Gazette article states BH-BL’s graduation rate is 94 percent but that figure does not include the students who graduated in August 2018.
