Resolution Addressing Administration of Grade 3-8 NYS Assessments 2016
WHEREAS, the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District has more than a century of academic and instructional excellence which includes the use of assessments to gauge student proficiency and inform instruction, and
WHEREAS the administration of the NYS 38 assessments presents unique challenges due to the fact that a segment of the district’s parents are instructing their children to refuse the assessment:
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District will continue to promote student participation in state assessments as required by NYS Education law, and
LET IT ALSO BE RESOLVED that the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District respects the decision of parents who object to the 38 NYS Assessments and have opted them out of the assessments this year. We will provide alternate academic activities taken from existing curriculum for students whose parents have opted them out of the state assessments, and
LET IT ALSO BE RESOLVED that the district is appreciative of parents who gave ample notice to their school principal in order to help keep the school environment calm and orderly on testing days; and
LET IT ALSO BE RESOLVED that the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District expects and encourages respect between and among all members of our community.
