Summer Music Program Registration
The BH-BL Fine Arts Department will offer four weeks of summer music instruction in July.
This program is recommended for students of all ages and abilities who enjoy playing and have a desire to improve their musical skills. The music instruction provided during the summer program emphasizes the development of fundamentals, technique, and music reading skills through lessons, small ensembles, Band and Orchestra, and sometimes, jazz experiences. The following opportunities are available:
Grades 4 – 7
One group lesson per week (schedule will be mailed home) and two Band or Orchestra rehearsals per week. The band and orchestra rehearsals are scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 to 9:50 am. The Band and Orchestra will perform in the Summer Music Concert Friday of the last week at 9 a.m. in the school’s stage area.
Grades 6 – 10
Two “Switch” class lessons per week for students who wish to switch from one like-instrument to another, or simply want to learn an additional like-instrument. Switching to a like-instrument means switching from one woodwind instrument to another, one brass instrument to another, or one string instrument to another. The most common switch classes are oboe, bassoon, and tuba, since students cannot begin those instruments in fourth grade. Students wishing to take a switch class must commit to attending at least the first three weeks of the program. Permission is required from your current music teacher. Students taking switch classes may also participate in Band or Orchestra on their regular instrument at no extra charge.
Grades 8 – 12
Two small ensemble lessons per week depending on available instrumentation. There may be a jazz improvisation class and/or Jazz Ensemble depending on enrollment. The small ensembles and jazz groups will perform in the Summer Music Concert. The Summer Music Program will take place at Charlton Heights Elementary School, from 8 a.m. to noon weekdays. Lessons will be 30 minutes in length. Band and Orchestra rehearsals will be 50 minutes in length. Students may attend all or any part of the program by indicating the weeks of participation on the registration form. If you know your child’s swim schedule or Summer Forum Session, please indicate that and we will try to avoid conflicts when putting together schedules.
The Summer Music Program will conclude with a concert on Friday of the last week at 9 a.m. in the school’s stage area.
Here’s How to Register
The registration fee for all or any part of the Summer Music Program is $12.50 per week per instrument that your child wishes to study. There will be no refunds. The fee for the entire 4-week program is $50.
