For more than 20 years, BH-BL’s Family & Consumer Sciences Department has operated a preschool–Kids Korner–each spring at the high school. Kids Korner is held one day a week (alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from 10 am to noon, starting February 11 and ending May 27.
The maximum number of preschoolers that can be in the program is 10. This is a first-come, first-served opportunity. Therefore, if you are interested or would like additional information, please email at Danielle Collins at dacollins@bhbl.org with “Kids Korner” in the subject line by Friday, January 10.
What’s Kids Korner All About?
Kids Korner is a learning lab planned and implemented, under the direction of BH-BL HS teacher Danielle Collins, by students in grades 11 and 12 enrolled in the school’s college-level Child Psychology & Development classes. These students have taken the prerequisite course, Child Studies, and are interested in attending college next year to pursue careers working with children. These include majoring in areas such as early childhood education, elementary/special education, psychology, and pre med, to name a few.
Kids Korner is designed for 3 to 5 year-old children who are toilet trained and ready to experience a supportive and enriching preschool environment. The high school students work very closely with the preschoolers and develop a wonderful relationship with them.
The Kids Korner program offers a valuable experience for both BH-BL high school students and local preschoolers. For the last several years, we have had students in the Child Psychology & Development course who even attended Kids Korner as preschoolers!
