Congratulations to BH-BL High School senior and Science Research Program student Hannah Shell who has been named a top 300 scholar in the 79th Regeneron Science Talent Search—the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and mathematics competition for high school seniors. Nearly 2,000 students entered the competition this year and Hannah is the only student in the Capital Region and one of only two in Upstate New York to receive this award.
Hannah will receive $2,000, and BH-BL High School will also receive $2,000 to use toward STEM-related activities. Hannah could also be named as one of 40 finalists, who each receive $25,000 and are invited to Washington, DC to undergo a rigorous judging process, interact with leading scientists, display their research for the public and meet with national leaders. The students’
original research projects cover all disciplines of science, including medicine and health, bioengineering, physics, genomics, mathematics, materials science, and behavioral science. Entrants are judged on their originality and creative thinking as well as a broader measure of their achievement and leadership, both inside and outside the classroom.
The top prize for the most promising emerging STEM leader in the United States is $250,000.
Congratulations and good luck, Hannah!
