WSWHE BOCES/BH-BL HS Students to Compete in SkillsUSA State Competition

Congratulations to BH-BL High School and WSWHE BOCES Career & Technical Education students Mary Guyer and Liam Wolf for their outstanding achievements at the regional SkillsUSA competition. Both students advance to the state level competition where they will compete in their respective fields of study and demonstrate the skills they’ve learned. Also attending states is Criminal Justice student Connor O’Neill. (His category wasn’t offered at the regional competition.)

Liam Wolf, who is in the Environmental Conservation and Forestry program, placed second in the Job Skill Demo at the regional SkillsUSA competition. This particular competition required students to demonstrate an occupational skill within the chosen career pathway accompanied by a clear explanation of the topic through experiments, displays or practical operations. Liam’s topic was on the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed when operating a chainsaw and he demonstrated the 5-step pre-operational inspection of a chainsaw.

Mary Guyer, who is in the Small Animal Science Program, placed second in the Prepared Speech competition at the regional SkillsUSA competition. This competition assesses public speaking skills through delivery of a five- to seven-minute speech. The students are evaluated on their ability to prepare and present clearly and effectively a series of thoughts as a prepared speech relating to the year’s central theme, which is “Ignite Your Potential.”

Additionally, BH-BL High School student Connor O’Neill (right side of photo), who is studying Criminal Justice at WSWHE, will also compete in the state-level SkillsUSA Competitions. His category–the Criminal Justice Quiz Bowl–is only offered at the state-level, not local or regional.

Good luck to you all!
